About Special Procedures Tech II

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

High School graduate or equivalent; completion of an AMA approved course in Radiologic Technology, either in a hospital or college based school of Radiologic Technology. Must have passed the examination of the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists and remain in good standing. Prefer 2 years experience as staff technologist, but not required. Previous experience in any Radiology subspecialty desirable, such as Special Procedures, mammography, Nuclear Medicine, MRI, CT, or ultrasound.

SPECIFIC DUTIES

Is available to take call when necessary and be reasonably flexible in work schedule. Is trained properly in starting IV’s on patients, is familiar with department policy on use of existing IV’s in patients. Maintains positive and professional atmosphere for patients. Demonstrates interpersonal skills necessary to exchange patient information from physicians and nursing personnel to Radiologist to effectively perform correct exam on patient. Provides immobilization as required and protection in accordance with safety standards including gathering information from patient regarding allergies, pregnancy, etc. and checking with Radiologist for directions. Is trained in loading film cassettes and developing films properly. Is able to properly select technical factors for efficiently performing scans. Will follow protocols set by Radiologists for each exam. Assists Radiologist in sterile procedures when necessary. Maintains neat, orderly, contamination free exam room. Practices sterile techniques when appropriate. Maintains stocked room. Is able to “trouble shoot” for aiding maintenance and uses good judgment as to when service is needed. May be able and willing to instruct “training technologist”, students and ancillary personnel on CT procedures. Responsible for smooth flow of schedule, patient preparation, and quality control of CT scans. Cooperates with all other department personnel for smooth patient flow. May be required to assist in development of technical factors and film selection and some clerical tasks as necessary. Maintains professional appearance by adhering to Dress policy of the hospital and Radiology Department.
