Parallel 45 Theatre is bringing performances comparable to New York, Chicago and Los Angeles experiences, to Traverse City.
More than 100 actors have graced the Parallel 45 stage, coming as far as Berlin, since 2010 to showcase groundbreaking, relevant and award-winning shows. This summer’s cutting-edge lineup sheds new light on classics and provokes audience engagement.
Parallel 45’s brand new outdoor venue, located within Civic Center Park, is fully covered by a canopy and surrounded by a three-quarter seating arrangement. Professional actors will fill the stage with entertaining tales while guests watch from under the open Michigan sky.

HAIR | July 11–August 3
Celebrated as one of the most popular shows around the globe, HAIR brought the ’60s counter-cultural revolution to a mass audience. Recognizing HAIR as the theatrical breakthrough of its time, this production joyfully dissects an era when the thrill of rebellion became a powerful force against intolerance, subjugation and war. Parallel 45 Artistic Director Kit McKay directs, drawing a pointed comparison to our current socio-political atmosphere.
LITTLE BUNNY FOO FOO | July 18–August 2
This brand new musical, based on the classic children’s song “Little Bunny Foo Foo hoppin’ through the forest…” is written by Anne Washburn and features the music of Tony-nominated composer Dave Malloy. This high-energy musical shows off a saucy bunny to the delight of children (4+) and their families.
STUPID F**KING BIRD | July 25–August 3
In this funny, uber-contemporary remix of Chekhov’s The Seagull, author Aaron Posner stages a timeless battle between young and old, past and present, tradition and revolution. Torrid love triangles, philosophical war-waging and foot-stomping hilarity will inspire raucous delight (ages 13+).

P45 SUMMER CAMP + PROFESSIONAL PERFORMANCE OPPORTUNITY | June 24–August 2
A once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for tiny humans to share the stage with professional actors, directors and designers. Parallel 45 Theatre is excited to partner with Old Town Playhouse to offer a four-week half-day workshop for ages 5–11 who will then join Parallel 45’s professional production of Little Bunny Foo Foo.
