Simply Delicious with Chef Tom:
Join Chef Tom at the Kingsley Branch Library on the last Saturday of every month for “Simply Delicious with Chef Tom,” a quick and inspiring cooking class! You’ll learn tips and techniques, discover global cuisine and spices, build your personal cooking skills and menu repertoire, and sample delicious eats! Bring a friend!
Chef Tom Sisco is a retired, certified chef with more than 25 years of experience in everything from “mom & pop” restaurants to 4-star hotels. When he was in the 7th grade, his wise mother told him that if he was going to continue to love eating as he does, he would need to learn to cook. He took the hint to heart, enrolled in NMC’s Culinary Program, and made cooking his life’s trade. This is Chef Tom’s 13th year with the Kingsley Branch Library.
Event is free and open to the public. For more information, please call 231-263-5484.

🥣🎨 Why is Empty Bowls our favorite event? It’s more than just a gathering—it’s a heartwarming experience that brings our community together in so many ways:
👩🎨 Artists: Creative minds come together to craft beautiful bowls, each one a masterpiece filled with love and purpose.
🎶 Entertainers: Our event is not just about food; it’s about creating memories. New this year, inspired by the first Empty Bowls event held by a high school art class in Southeast Michigan over 34 years ago, the Coalition is partnering with area artists to provide live demonstrations and art available for purchase. Local entertainment will be showcased – including a presentation by Michael Sincic, a local watercolor artist who is blind.
🍽️ Restaurateurs: Local restaurants generously donate their delicious soups, showcasing the culinary talent of our community.
💙 Donors and Ticket Holders: Your support keeps our mission alive. Every contribution, big or small, makes a difference in the lives of those in need. The cost for the event is $27 in advance or $33 at the door for adults, children 6-13 is $15, and children 5 and under are free.
🙋♀️ Volunteers: Dedicated individuals who lend their time and effort to ensure the success of our event and our mission everyday, spreading kindness with every gesture.
🌾 By supporting Empty Bowls, you’re not only helping your neighbors in need – including veterans, seniors, children, and families; but you’re also backing our local farmers. With your support, we’re able to invest in fresh, locally sourced produce and proteins, keeping our funds within the farm community and supporting family farmers.
📅 Mark your calendars for April 28, from 11 a.m.to 3 p.m. at Howe Arena and join us for a day filled with compassion, connection, and delicious food. Together, we can make a meaningful impact and continue to spread love throughout our community.
See you there! 🌟

JAZZ IN THE VINES TICKETS ON SALE NOW
United Way of Northwest Michigan (UWNWMI) is proud to announce their annual Jazz in the Vines.
What can $50 buy you these days? A few things may come to mind—notably, “not much.” But $50 is the purchase price for a ticket to Sunday, May 5 is Jazz in the Vines, a fundraiser hosted by Old Mission Peninsula’s Chateau Chantal to benefit United Way of Northwest Michigan. Aside from indulging your taste for Northern Michigan wine and ear for jazz, that ticket will help impact our community members by providing programs in education, health, and financial stability. Your support will provide real solutions to improve our region for those in crisis and those seeking a better life.
Jazz in the Vines encompasses a casual afternoon of great music, wine and cheese tasting, and a table full of sweet With spectacular views of both Grand Traverse Bay and Old Mission Peninsula, a stunning surrounding provides the background for the music of the Jeff Haas Trio. Haas—a resident of Traverse City—has been a mainstay in the Michigan jazz scene for decades and is currently the host of The New Jazz Archive, an Interlochen Public Radio program devoted to all things jazz.
Jazz in the Vines occurs on Sunday, May 5, from 2 to 5 pm. Tickets can be found on the United Way of Northwest Michigan website HERE.

The Old Art Building came into being in 1922 as the result of planning and fundraising done by the Walter T. Best Women’s Club, led by Allie Mae Maro. Allie Mae was the widow of Walter T. Best, also known as Edward Maro “Price of Magic.”
In 1923 Allie Mae opened her own business, The Blue Lantern Tea Room which offered lunch as well as afternoon tea. Those who knew Allie Mae knew her to be a generous hostess and a great supporter of arts and culture in the region. She and her husband had toured on the Lyceum circuit before his passing and had been known to host salon entertainments in their estate home on Lake Leelanau.
Drawing from all of this rich history, The Old Art Building is pleased to introduce the Blue Lantern Tea Room program monthly through the winter. We offer the intimate salon-style interaction with artists along with refreshments and tea to be enjoyed in the sunlit ambiance of this historical space.
Sunday, February 11: SOLD OUT “Classical Guitar” — Matthew Cochran and students from Interlochen Arts Academy. Renowned solo guitar composer/performer Matthew Cochran brings students from his studio to “air out” new compositions and talk about the inspiration and discipline it takes to bring a new composition to life.
Sunday, March 10: “Bon Appetit” — An Operatic Biography of Julia Child. Indulge in what is arguably the world’s most famous chocolate cake while getting the story straight from the baker’s mouth. An actual transcript of Julia baking her cake is masterfully set to music and sung by nationally acclaimed mezzo-soprano Lindsey Anderson.
Sunday, April 14: “She Does Shakespeare” — Women actors shake up Shakespeare. Area actresses take their stab at famous scenes and monologues intended exclusively for men. We will be joined by actor/writer Shelby Lewis who has a wealth of experience in adapting The Bard for modern audiences. She and the actors will address the challenges and delights of reimagining these familiar words for women.
Sunday, May 12: “Spring Madrigals” — A selection of seasonal vocal music from Leland Public School Honors Choir. It’s May! Time for flower crowns, strawberries and cream, and a flourish of spring madrigals, performed by the youthful voices of the Leland Honors Choir.

Feast on City Park Grill’s fungi infused 27th Annual Morel Wine Dinner featuring Caymus Vineyards wines. Morel featured entrées include Morel-Potato Gnocchi Duck Confit, Poached Cod-Morel Mushroom Ramen Bowl, Smoked Pork Belly, Red Wine Braised Short Ribs and Morel-Banana Crème Brûlée. Join special guest, Eric Bjorkman, Great Lakes Wine and Spirits, as he guides guests through four perfect Caymus Vineyards wine pairings and an optional premium pour.
Caymus Vineyards History (According to the Caymus Vineyards Website)
“Chuck Wagner and his late parents, Lorna and Charlie Sr., opened
Caymus Vineyards in 1972, starting off with 240 cases of Cabernet
Sauvignon. Today, Caymus remains 100% family-owned and run, as the next
generation takes on the responsibility of this farming and winemaking
operation.
Caymus Vineyards is located in the center of the Napa Valley. Primary
production is Cabernet Sauvignon grown on low-fertility soils on both
the valley floor and the mountains that surround the valley. Attention
to viticulture details, some dry farming, high-density plantings (with
some blocks spaced as close as meter x meter), thinning of the yield,
along with healthy vines and harvesting at an elevated degree of
ripeness – all of these elements produce a unique and singular style of
Cabernet.”

What comes to mind when you think of the word Inheritance? Often it is something tangible which is passed down through the ages from loved ones, a piece of property such as a family farm? Perhaps it could be a job or position in your community? How about your dimples, or your freckles? Is what you have inherited a blessing or a curse? Could it be a treasured possession such as your grandmother’s favorite jewelry which now holds great sentimental value to you? Maybe you inherited your sunny disposition from your father, while inheriting your mother’s beautiful singing voice? How are we tied to these things, and how will we pass them on? How do we keep it and honor it?
The Art & Storytelling event is one evening only, however the Artwork for the show is on display at the gallery from May 10th-June 1st.

Our festival will feature a juried fine art show and a creative maker’s market. In addition, there will be numerous art-related activities in town including Saturday workshops at a local multi-media studio, walking the Cheboygan Art Trail and a children’s art project at Ottawa Art Park.
This two-day juried fine art festival will be held on a public, grassy lot on Main Street in Cheboygan. Only a few steps away from our incredible Saturday morning Farmer’s Market, which will run concurrently with ART SPLASH! Prizes for best in show $300, 2nd place $200, and 3rd place $100 will be awarded on July 28.
The Creative Maker’s Market will be held in the Opera House parking lot, which is adjacent to the juried art. All three events (ART SPLASH, The Creative Maker’s Market and the Farmer’s Market) are connected by a stretch of Huron Street that will be closed off to traffic to allow for the easy flow of patrons.
